The 36th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration March/Parade is dedicated to honoring and celebrating the life and legacy of Dr. King. Set up will begin on Monday, January 21st at 3 a.m. with the construction of bleachers along the north and south side walk on 2922 MLK Blvd, erection of a stage (8’x8’) in front of the MLK Jr. Center. The event includes amplified sound from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., there’s no food or beverages and parade entries include marching bands, floats, horses and vehicles. Tear down to be completed by 7 p.m. day of the event. The following street closures are from 6 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. for parade staging: Al Lipscomb Way from S. Lamar St. to Holmes St.; S. Lamar St. from Al Lipscomb Way to Forest Ave.; Parnell St. from Al Lipscomb Way to Forest Ave.; Gould St. from Al Lipscomb Way to Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.; Cleveland St. from Al Lipscomb Way to Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.; Holmes St. from Al Lipscomb Way to Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd; Park Row Ave. from South Lamar St. to Holmes St.; South Blvd. from Lamar Street to Holmes Street and Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. from South Lamar Street to Holmes Street. The parade starts at 10 a.m. at the intersection of Holmes St. & MLK Jr. Blvd., proceeds northeast on MLK, disperses into Fair Park and concludes at 2 p.m. Parade street closures include the full closure of 1500-3300 block of MLK Jr. Blvd., and all cross streets. Estimated daily attendance is 200,000.
