In lieu of the annual Carry The Load activities and Dallas Memorial March, this year Carry The Load will host a vehicular only procession to honor the memory of the Heroes that have died serving our country. The procession will take place Monday, May 25 between 9 a.m. and noon. The VIP procession includes a maximum of 100 vehicles and these vehicles will stage along Maple Avenue between Oaklawn Avenue and Turtle Creek Boulevard starting at 8:30 a.m. The VIP procession starts at 9 a.m. at Turtle Creek Boulevard and Maple Avenue, proceeds with the flow of traffic, east on Turtle Creek Boulevard/ Cedar Springs Road, left on Turtle Creek Boulevard, left on Blackburn Street, and ends at Blackburn Street and Oak Lawn Avenue. After the VIP procession, the route will remain closed until 12 p.m. to allow time for the public to drive through the route only – everyone must remain in their cars; procession spectators and pedestrians are prohibited. One eastbound and one westbound lane on Turtle Creek Boulevard from Maple Avenue to Fairmount Street will be closed from 9 a.m. on May 24 to 1 p.m. on May 25 for event staff parking on May 24 and Carry The Load branded vehicle display on May 25. Military staff and event volunteers along the route shall ensure participants remain in their cars and follow all COVID-19 regulations and precautions.
Setup begins on Sunday at 9 a.m. with the installation of poster boards along the route. A 4’x8’x18” riser will be installed on the southside (grassy area) of Turtle Creek Boulevard at 8 a.m. May 25 and removed by 2 p.m. One individual speaker will provide encouragement, cheers and information via an amplified sound system from the riser. All signs will be removed by 8 p.m. on May 25. Everyone must remain in their cars; procession spectators and pedestrians are prohibited.
