MLK Jr. Celebration March/Parade @ MLK Community Center

The 38th annual Martin Luther King Jr. march/parade is dedicated to honoring and celebrating the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The parade includes a maximum of 250 entries (4,000 participants); marching bands, floats, horses and vehicles. DART Transportation Officers are onsite to assist at J.B. Jackson, Jr. Transit Center at MLK Jr. Station. Set up will begin at 3 a.m. with the erection of tents (five – 10’x10’), bleachers along the north and south sidewalk of the 2922 block of Martin Luther King Boulevard, and the erection of a stage (16’x8’x48”) in front of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Center. No food or beverage sales is permitted throughout the route. The float staging escort leaves from Livestock Fair Park at 7 a.m. travels with the flow of traffic down Pennsylvania Avenue to the Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard staging area. The parade steps off at 10 a.m. at the intersection of Holmes Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, proceeds northeast on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard ending and dispersing into Fair Park. Martin Luther King Boulevard closures begin at 9 a.m. starting at the intersection of Holmes Street and Martin Luther King Jr Boulevard and proceeding down Martin Luther King Boulevard toward Fair Park. Parade street closures include the full closure of the 1500-3300 blocks of Martin Luther King Boulevard, and all cross streets. Intersections reopen after the street sweepers passes through. Martin Luther King Boulevard will open completely by 2 p.m. Tear down will be complete and street closure apparatus removed by 7 p.m.

Big D Climb @ CBD

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is hosting their annual Big D Climb at Bank of America Plaza. This registration required event involves a DJ, amplified sound and a beer garden within a secured perimeter. The climb, up 70 flights of stairs, starts at 8:30 a.m. with most activities taking place inside the building. Food and beverage (alcoholic) will be provided. The following meters will be hooded from 12 a.m. – 3 p.m.: E901, E903, E905, E907 @ 900 Main Street, directly in front of the building. Setup begins at 5:45 p.m. on January 24 with the erection of tents (five – 10’x10’ and four – 10’x20’). Teardown will be complete by 3 p.m.

Urban Ultra Dallas @ Ronald Kirk Pedestrian Bridge
Jan 25 @ 11:00 am – 7:00 pm

This is a reoccurring run hosted by Ultra Expeditions, LLC and includes a half marathon, full marathon, 5K, 10K and a 50K. This event will involve outdoor amplified sound and merchandise will be sold. Each race will start and finish at the Felix H. Lozada, Sr. Gateway and will remain entirely on the Skyline Trail. The full marathon and the 50K will start at 12 p.m., the half marathon will start at 2:30 p.m. and the 10K and 5K will begin at 5 p.m. Setup will begin at 7 a.m. with the erection of tents (three – 10’x10’). Teardown will be complete by 10 p.m.

Community Beer Company 7 Year Anniversary @ Community Beer Company

Community Beer Company is celebrating their 7th Anniversary. This is a ticketed event and will include local live music from Ole G & Chadwick Cook. Food, beverage (alcoholic) and merchandise will be sold. Setup will begin at 12:30 p.m. January 24 with the erection of a mobile stage (8’x5’x12”) and a tent (40’x60’). Teardown will be complete by 9 a.m. January 26.

Unity Prayer Walk @ Forest Park
Jan 25 @ 1:00 pm – 2:45 pm

This annual walk is hosted by the South Dallas Fair Park Faith Coalition. The route includes rolling closures; streets will close 15 minutes ahead of participants and reopen as the last participant passes through. Staging will begin at 12:30 p.m. on the sidewalk at 3300 MLK Jr. Boulevard. The walk begins at 1:15 p.m., proceeds west on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard for 1.2 miles and concludes at Forest Park, 2950 Gould St. for a short celebration.

Omnitracs Truckers Against Trafficking Event @ Pacific Plaza Park

This new event is hosted by Omnitracs, LLC to raise awareness about human trafficking. The event will take place at Pacific Plaza Park and includes a keynote speaker, DJ and live performance. A Red Hat Truck will be displayed at 2001 Elm Street (parking lot). Food and beverage (nonalcoholic) will be sold. Setup will begin at 9 a.m. and include a Freedom Riders exhibition trailer and food trucks.

Too Cold to Hold 5K/10K/Half Marathon @ White Rock Lake

This is an annual run hosted by Race Systems, Inc at White Rock Lake. The event will feature a half marathon, a 10K and a 5K run. Pre and post-race festivities take place in Norbuck Park and include outdoor amplified sound beginning at 7 a.m. and food and beverage (alcoholic) will be provided to participants. All races start and finish at Norbuck Park.The Half Marathon begins at 8:15 a.m., exits the parking lot, continues under Buckner Blvd., right on E. Lawther, left on the trail before Northwest Highway, left on Flag Pole Hill Trail, left on White Rock Creek Trail, continue south on White Rock Lake Trail, cross the boathouse bridge, merge onto the White Rock Creek Trail, continue around the east side of the lake on the White Rock Lake Trail, U-turn at the Winfrey Point parking lot, reversing the route back toward the dog park, continue on White Rock Lake Trail, pass the dog park, across the pedestrian bridge, left on E. Lawther Drive, right on the Buckner Bridge underpass to the finish line.The 10K begins at 8:15 a.m., exits the parking lot, continues under Buckner Blvd., right on E. Lawther, left on the trail before Northwest Highway, left on Flag Pole Hill Trail, left on White Rock Creek Trail, continue south on White Rock Lake Trail, U-turns near Fisher Road at trail marker WRT137 reversing the route back toward the dog park, continue on White Rock Lake Trail, pass the dog park, across the pedestrian bridge, left on E. Lawther Drive, right on the Buckner Bridge underpass to the finish line.The 5K will begin at 8:30 a.m., exits the parking lot, continue under Buckner Blvd., left on E. Lawther, continue south on E. Lawther, U-turn at the double gates closest to Big Thicket, reversing the route to return to the finish line.  Setup will begin Friday, January 31 at 9 a.m. with the erection of a stage (36”x16’x20’) and tents (ten – 10’x10’ and four – 10’x20’). Teardown will be complete by 2 p.m.
